Reglan Dosage and Overdose Symptoms

Reglan Side Effects

Reglan® comes in three different forms: oral tablets, concentrated oral syrup, and a clear, colorless liquid injection. Each form of Reglan is taken in different doses.

The doses for each form of Reglan are:

  • liquid injection: 5 mg in 2-, 10-, or 30-mL single-dose vials
  • oral concentrated syrup: 125 mL and 250 mL
  • oral tablets: 5 mg and 10 mg

The dose in milliliters (mL) and milligrams (mg) indicates the amount of the active ingredient in Reglan (a chemical called metoclopramide).

Factors Influencing Reglan Dosage

The amount of Reglan each person takes will vary based on age, weight, symptoms, and reaction to initial doses, but it is usually taken four times a day on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before each meal, and at bedtime. When metoclopramide is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), it may be taken less frequently, especially if symptoms only occur at certain times of day.

Reglan Doses for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Gastroparesis

Gastroesophageal reflux disease patients will typically take between 10 and 15 milligrams, four times a day. Diabetic-related gastroparesis (full or partial paralysis of the stomach muscles) patients usually take no more than 10 milligrams, four times a day. People suffering from gastroparesis are sometimes started on injectable Reglan before they are switched to Reglan pills.
